I think the joke is Sal is not a comforting person and so she has to read comforting parent words directly from a book?  But what book would use those words like that?  I dunno, that’s my best guess, but sometimes you guys are better at figuring out young me than I am, so if I’m missing something, let me know.  Right now, I’m not sure this one makes much sense.
