I don’t think folks remember Ruth was so punch-happy back then.  Seriously, she had a problem.  When she showed up in Dumbing of Age, readers often expressed surprise that she was so violent.  They remember the … other aspects of Ruth more, I guess.  But to me, though, this is part of the whole package.
